On January 26th 2022, experts and key stakeholders came together to discuss the benefits of EGNOS and Galileo for Brazil during a webinar moderated by the European Space Agency.

The webinar brought together a panel experts from European Union Agency for the Space Programme, ENAIRE and the Galileo Information Centre in Brazil, as well as hosting presentations from the European Commission and the EU Global Action on Space. Throughout the webinar, experts highlighted the various applications and benefits of Galileo and EGNOS in Brazil, including in the agriculture and forestry sector.

Discussing Galileo, participants heard about the four different applications: open service multi-frequency (E1/E5/E6), Galileo open service navigation message authentication (OS-NMA), Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS), Galileo Signal Authentication Service (SAS). One of the unique features of Galileo is the E5 AltBOC, a very sophisticated signal that allows extreme accuracy.

Experts also presented the role of Satellite-based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) to improve the accuracy and reliability of GNSS information by correcting signal measurement errors and by providing information about the accuracy, integrity, continuity and availability of its signals. Finally, participants were able to see a showcase of the benefits of EGNOS for the aviation sector, including increased safety and reduced environmental impact.

During the Q&A section of the webinar, the audience asked about the opportunity for Brazil to develop and SBAS system, and how the EU can support this process. Participants also heard about opportunities such as the Business Coaching aspect of the EU Global Action on Space, and the Galileo Information Centre in Brazil.
