Podcast | New Down to Space episode available: EU-Caribbean cooperation in space

3 May 2024

The latest episode of our "Down to Space" series is now live on all major podcast platforms. In this episode, two guests delve into present and future collaboration prospects in the space sector between the European Union and the Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) region, with a focus on the Caribbean islands and specifically Bonaire.

Following the EU Global Action on Space event in Bonaire "Fostering Innovation and Cooperation in Space between the EU and LAC", our host interviews Jolanda Van Eijndthoven, Head of Unit for ”Space Data Economy and International Cooperation” at the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space of the European Commission; and Edison Rijna, Special Envoy for the Caribbean Netherlands for EU funds, UN funds and economic relations with Latin America.

The interviewees offer the audience both the European and the Caribbean perspectives on cooperation in space. Topics discussed include the Global Gateway Strategy, the EU-LAC Digital Alliance and the solutions enabled by Copernicus, EGNOS and Galileo in the Caribbean and, on the other hand, the added value brought by EU space infrastructure in the Caribbean (Copernicus centre in Panama and Galileo Sensor Station in Bonaire).
